Two things that make spring and summer unpleasant, orange cones and mosquitos, since the cones do some good, I am here to help you battle the little fly, that is the translation in spanish.
1st here’s some facts about theses pests.
People wearing black clothing will attract the little buzzers. Mosquitoes can smell the carbon dioxide from your breath from 60-75 ft away. Mosquito’s sense of smell is 10,000 times greater than humans! Eating garlic or taking a garlic pill daily is supposed to keep the mosquitoes away. Garlic would keep anything away! Male mosquitoes can find females by listening to the sound of their wings beating. The males identify them by the pitch of the female’s wings. Mosquito’s wings beat at 300 to 600 times per second. An adult mosquito consumes 5-millionths of a liter in a blood meal. A female mosquito weighs only 1-15,000 ounce or 2.0 milligrams. Adult mosquitoes can live as long as 5 months. Their wings beat from 300-600 time per second! It could take several months for a larva to develop to an adult in cold water. Eggs from flood water mosquitoes could remain dormant for several years. They will hatch when they get covered with water.
Now lets look at some weapons to battle those red bump brigades.
Mosquito repellents don’t actually repel the mosquitoes but blocks their sensory receptors which acts like a human shield. Now lets will the different types of repellant and the pros and cons of each one. Most people use sprays and lotions, but over the past couple of years there has been different ways to rid the swamp birds so they would ruin your outdoor fun.
Sprays
Pros-Easy to apply, cheap, available everywhere
Cons-Smelly; spooks deer, have to reapply often when it is hot out.
Thermacell
Pros: Works great, no smell, easy to transport, quiet after starting
Cons: A little loud to start when hunting, wind can cause lower effectiveness, expensive.
(Side note The makers of Off makes a take off one of these, they work well but the fan is loud. Great for turkey hunting and fishing)
Bug Suits, Masks, Gloves
Pros- No smell, can also help blend in to your surroundings
Cons- bugs still attack you, hard to concentrate when bugs are all around you.
There are some other things like wrist bands and patches but my experience with them as they only work on the arm if at all.
Citronella Candles
Pros–organic, no Deet or harmful chemicals, works in a large area.
Cons- open flame, smelly, NOT recommended in the woods or on a boat.
So there ya have it, some tools to help you not get bit and enjoy the outdoors without smackin’ you and other people

Great article. I like the Thermacell and seems to be effective. Do you know if it’s safe to inhale the gas it puts off?
I did not know that Scott, I always stayed away from the fumes.
